Sam Powell is a vastly experienced hooker who played in six Grand Finals with Wigan, winning three and losing three.
Signed by Warrington in November 2023, he has proved to be a reliable understudy for Danny Walker. He played in all 33 games in 2024 (10 starts and 23 times off the bench) and made 29 appearances in 2025 – missing just three games.
Born in Wigan, he signed for the Warriors Academy in 2008, aged 16, and won the Academy Grand Final against Warrington in 2011.
He was loaned out to South Wales Scorpions (2013) and Workington Town (2014 and 2015) as his game developed.
He succeeded Michael McIlorum as the first-choice hooker in 2016 and went on to make 273 appearances for Wigan, scoring 42 tries and kicking 12 goals and four drop goals.
He celebrated his 100th game for Wigan in the World Club Challenge victory over Cronulla Sharks at the DW Stadium in 2017 and played in the Challenge Cup final defeat by Hull FC later that season.
He was granted a 12-month testimonial season with Wigan in November 2022.
