Bury-born Max Wood is an ambitious young prop who has joined Warrington on a one-year deal after being released by Wigan at the end of the 2023 season.
He joined the Mayfield community club in Rochdale when he was six years old and moved up through the age group sides.
He joined the Wigan scholarship programme in 2020 and soon made his presence felt in their Under-17s side. He signed a professional contract with the Warriors in November 2021.
He played for Wigan’s reserves in 2023 and spent two weeks on loan to the Midlands Hurricanes in June, making his senior debut against Workington Town.
He began pre-season training for the 2024 campaign with Warrington and impressed coach Sam Burgess so much that he was offered a one-year deal with a one-year option in the club’s favour.
Burgess said: “His attitude since joining us in pre-season has been up to our standard and he’s a valued addition to our pack.”
Wood pulled on a Warrington jersey for the first time in the pre-season friendly against Widnes Vikings in January 2024 and scored two tries in a 46-40 victory.
