Bury-born prop Max Wood is becoming a crowd favourite at Warrington because of his non-stop effort and powerhouse runs.
He made 12 appearances in 2024 and 15 in 2025, scoring his first try for the club in the 26-16 Challenge Cup victory at Widnes Vikings. He was the unused 18th man for the Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
He has also impressed Widnes fans during two spells with them on dual registration.
Max joined the Mayfield community club in Rochdale when he was six years old and moved up through the age group sides.
He joined the Wigan scholarship programme in 2020 and soon made his presence felt in their Under-17s side. He signed a professional contract with the Warriors in November 2021.
He played for Wigan’s reserves in 2023 and spent two weeks on loan to the Midlands Hurricanes in June, making his senior debut against Workington Town.
He was released by Wigan at the end of 2023 and began pre-season training for the 2024 campaign with Warrington. Head coach Sam Burgess was so impressed that he offered Max a one-year deal with a one-year option in the club’s favour.
Later that season, he agreed a three-year contract extension with a club option for a further year.
