Profile
Back-row forward Matty Nicholson is one of the hottest properties in Super League having made his England debut in 2023 aged just 19.
Halifax-born Nicholson played his junior rugby league with Siddal before signing for Wigan Warriors.
In 2021 and 2022, he was twice loaned out to Newcastle Thunder where he made his senior debut and scored one try in 10 appearances.
He made his Super League debut for Wigan against Huddersfield Giants in May 2022, scoring two tries in a 32-22 defeat.
Much to the annoyance of Wigan, he signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Warrington in June 2022.
In July 2022, he made a sensational debut for the Wolves, scoring a try in a shock 36-10 victory over Catalans Dragons in the Magic Weekend fixture at St James’ Park.
He made his England Knights debut at loose-forward in Bordeaux in October 2022 as France B were beaten 18-6.
He made his full England debut against France at the Halliwell Jones in April 2023 as Shaun Wane’s side stormed to a 64-0 victory.
In September 2023, he was shortlisted for the Super League Young Player of the Year award which eventually went to team-mate Josh Thewlis. However, he will still be classed as a young player in 2024.
