Jake Thewlis is the younger brother of Josh Thewlis, Super League’s Young Player of the Year in 2023, and is tipped to follow in his footsteps.
Like Josh, he played his junior rugby league with the Waterhead Warriors junior club before joining Warrington’s scholarship programme.
In September 2022, he was praised by then Academy head coach Richard Marshall who said: “He’s strong, a good back-field carrier and he’s done a lot of work on his skills and positional play as well.”
He and Josh scored two tries apiece in the pre-season friendly against North Wales Crusaders in February 2023.
He played in the 2023 Academy Grand Final against St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
He was crowned the reserves Player of the Year in September 2023 and went on the club’s Academy tour of Australia. He was also rewarded with a squad number for the first team for 2024.
