Jake Thewlis is the younger brother of Josh Thewlis and was Warrington’s breakthrough star of 2025.
After injuries to Matty Ashton and Arron Lindop, Jake took his chance with both hands to score 14 tries in 18 appearances. He was crowned the Lance James Young Player of the Year at the club’s annual awards evening.
Like Josh, Jake played his junior rugby league with the Waterhead Warriors club before joining Warrington’s scholarship programme.
He and Josh scored two tries apiece in the pre-season friendly against North Wales Crusaders in February 2023.
He then played in the 2023 Academy Grand Final against St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
He was crowned the reserves Player of the Year in September 2023 and went on the club’s first Academy tour of Australia. He was also rewarded with squad number 31 for 2024.
Jake made his debut against Wigan Warriors in June 2024 one week before the two sides met again in the Challenge Cup final and did not look out of place.
Warrington finished 2025 with Josh Thewlis on one wing and Jake on the other, battling it out to see who could be the club’s leading tryscorer.
