The world of rugby league was stunned when Wire revealed they had acquired the services of utility back Greg Inglis, capped 39 times for Australia and winner of the Golden Boot as the best player in the world. “GI” was tempted out of retirement by Jason Clark who was a former team-mate of his at South Sydney last summer and his signing for Wire prompted half a million initial reactions on Twitter making the tweets the second most numerous in the country. In just a few days the club’s social media platforms attracted 200,000 hits and online retail sales soared.  Before joining the Rabbitohs Greg had already achieved star status with Melbourne Storm with whom he won two Grand Finals. He also represented Queensland in the State of Origin series on 32 occasions, captaining the Maroons in 2018, and he has scored more than 50 tries at representative level - often followed with his legendary goanna crawl.
