Warrington Wolves legends Kevin Ellis and Allan Bateman will line-up for the club’s PDRL side as our able-bodied players at Magic Weekend next Saturday at Anfield.
The Wire and Rhinos will play a special exhibition game to showcase PDRL at half time in the Betfred Super League game between Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants (4:30pm KO).
Channel 4’s The Last Legstar Adam Hills will once again feature for Warrington with his co-host Alex Brooker lining up for Leeds.
Ellis and Bateman follow in the footsteps of a number of club legends to have lined up for our PDRL side which includes the likes of Andrew Johns, Matt King, Toa Kohe-Love and Lee Briers.
Each PDRL side is allowed two able-bodied players who cannot kick, tackle or score but facilitate the play.
Both Ellis and Bateman made their debuts off the substitutes bench in the same match – a 26-9 win over Rochdale Hornets at Wilderspool on 7th October 1990.
Bateman – Heritage Number 902 – made 142 appearances in the primrose and blue scoring 52 tries. He was a Welsh centre famous for his excellent defence. He made three Great Britain appearances.
Ellis – Heritage Number 903 – turned out for the Wire on 123 occasions scoring 35 tries as well as slotting over three drop-goals. Ellis was a feisty Welsh-born scrum-half, he made one appearance for Great Britain and went on the 1992 Great Britain Tour.
Both played in the 1991 Regal Trophy winning team that defeated Bradford Northern 12-2 at Headingley.
You can catch the PDRL lads in action at Magic Weekend next Saturday 25 May.
