Head coach Steve Price gives his thoughts on his side’s cup win and the next round draw.
“It had a bit of everything didn’t it?! It was a tough game. We expected that. I thought it was the best Wigan have played this season. They showed a lot of heart out there today, they were very courageous. We knew what type of team they were going to bring and I thought we fought really hard. We could have executed a bit better at times but when the game was in the balance in the last 12 minutes I was really proud that we found another level. We went up another gear and even after Charnley’s drop ball everyone was composed. There is a huge amount of belief in our team, everyone was nice and calm and patient, we had to turn them away, and had to do that today in numbers. I was really proud of the effort. We had to bring our A-game and credit it where it is due Wigan were fantastic today.
“I thought Sitaleki Akauola had some big moments throughout the game and some big power runs. Daryl Clark got knocked about a bit early on and played really tough today, got over the advantage line and caused a bit of havoc. He’s been really consistent over a number of weeks. He’s been knocking out consistent displays and his running game today was fantastic.
“I think Hilly and Coops have been laying a solid foundation for us too over the last couple of weeks and off the back of that our interchange have been coming on an igniting the fire. It’s exciting. We have to keep evolving and improving, we understand that as there is still a long way in the season to go.
“There are no easy games. Hull KR down there next. Nothing changes for us, we respect all opposition and will prepare well when that time comes.
“To lose two finals is not easy to take. I’d like to think it’s extra motivation. Saying that, we are a totally different team from last year and there’s still a fair bit of footy to be played yet but it is a good position to be in.”
