We will come back bigger and better next year.
Head coach Steve Price gives his thoughts on his side’s performance in the Grand Final against Wigan Warriors.
“It could have gone either way up to the 77th minute. It was a hard, ferocious game there for a long time. I am super proud of the boys. We’ve come a long way since we came together in November; to achieve two finals despite being on the wrong side. I’m proud of the commitment, effort and attitude the boys displayed tonight.
“Sometimes you don’t get the calls. Defensively I thought Wigan were outstanding. They were hard to break down and they kept turning us away on the try line. There wasn’t much between the sides though.
“There were opportunities there where we had a game plan to try and exploit certain slots of the field. At times our decision-making could have been a bit better.
“I’m not finger pointing any individual. It was going to take all 17 to play their best game tonight unfortunately we came so close but couldn’t get the result.
“Stefan’s (Ratchford) been really consistent and had a great season. I thought he was outstanding. We had a lot of good performers. I thought Chris Hill was super; Mike Cooper, Bodene Thompson and Jack Hughes through the middle. It was a good old, tough game and sometimes you’ve got to give credit where it’s due and credit to Wigan tonight.
“To keep them to 12 points was a super effort. Offensively I thought we needed to come up with some better plays but we will review that later, it’s tough at the moment.
“We have the backbone of a really tough, resilient football team now; that showed with some great displays this season, to knock off the league leaders last week and give ourselves a chance up to the 77th minute tonight.
“I’m proud of the team and club and we will come back bigger and better next year.”
