Head coach Steve Price reflects on his side’s win, bouncing back from last week’s defeat to end Castleford’s unbeaten run.
“I was very pleased with the performance tonight. They’ve (Castleford) been the best team to date in the small number of rounds we’ve played. They’ve been pretty consistent and have a quality football team. It was pleasing to come away with the win; with the short turnaround there were a lot of guys hurting from last week’s performance and it just shows the character and the belief of the people who care for each other and the jersey.
“They got a bit of a jump on us there but we did well to play the footy I know we are capable of doing. It was a quality game of football.
“It’s been a really good start for us. We had a slight hiccup last week but we are in pretty good shape, our combinations are starting to take shape and will only get better. We are looking promising at the moment and I am pleased with the bounce back tonight.
“Early on in the season sometimes it doesn’t matter how it looks as long as you are getting the result. At this time of year it’s about working hard, competing hard and enjoying it.
“I was pleased with Jake’s (Mamo) output tonight. I thought he came up with good plays and scored some good tries. He was always in and around the ball. I thought Daryl Clark’s performance tonight was a really polished display.
“Ben Currie has been doing everything right over the last couple of weeks and has been close. Danny Walker took ill today so we put Ben in. I am pleased for him to get through the game. It’s been a long wait for him. It’s a big relief. Hopefully he can get back to the old Ben Currie of years ago. It will take some time but if he gets out there and keeps punching out the minutes like that, does the basic fundamentals, that’s all we can ask for. I wasn’t nervous I know he’s done the work in pre-season. He looked great out there tonight. He’s in a good head place. I am pleased he got through the 80 minutes.
“I’ve only been here a short amount of time but all Wigan games are tough and I expect nothing different next Friday. They got one over us not so long ago too.”
Injury: Goodwin (foot) is not too bad. He will have scans over the next couple of days so we will know more then.
