Price on win over Hull KR

Head coach Steve Price speaks after his side’s win over Hull KR in Round Two of the new season.

“I’m pleased to get the two competition points, but it’s a performance I’m not happy with. We did what we had to do, we knocked out a win at this time of year, against a team who’s going to cause a lot of sides some problems throughout the year. They have a quality roster, they’ve improved on their depth from last season. I thought throughout the game we made it too comfortable for them at times, and that’s a standard that we expect better of from ourselves. However to score 28 points in round two of the season is pleasing.”

“I thought Blake’s (Austin) incident was just him being aggressive, I couldn’t personally see anything wrong with it from where I was sitting to be honest. I’ll have to review it again. What does give me confidence is that we have played with 12 men for nearly 30 minutes over the last two weeks and to keep two teams to 20 points is a credit to the playing group. It is only early, we have a weekend off next week, so we’ll regroup and get ready for Huddersfield.

“I was pleased with Blake’s (Austin) performance today. I said it last week and I’ll be saying it again in the next few weeks, it’s going to take a little bit of time with the new combinations. We got the two points which is pleasing, as a collective group we’ve got high standards here. Overall, it wasn’t a performance I was happy with.

“We need to play with intent. A couple of offensive strategies that we tried to implement today, didn’t quite come off but we will be better for it.”

“I thought Harvey (Livett) had some good moments on that left edge, and he came up with some big game-changing moments. It’s a credit to Harvey that he can always find a way to the try line and be around the ball. The cross-kick where their winger spilled it, was a big moment. He came up with some big plays and he defended his try line well. I was very pleased for Harvey.

“It was a pretty severe cut to Lama (Tasi). He is getting stitched up, there’s 16-18 stitches being put in on his shin. It was a weird one, I wasn’t quite sure how it happened. Other than that we came away unscathed.”
