Head coach Steve Price talks after the Wire’s win over Wakefield in the penultimate game of the regular season.
“It was a fantastic first half. Everything we set out to do pre game was instrumental. We had a lot second-phase controlled offloads. Murds and Bennie Currie saw some good clean ball too. I thought we could have gone a bit further ahead in that first half but I was really pleased in how we carried out our plan and execution. In the second half we took the foot off a bit but the most pleasing thing was getting the win; that’s all that counted tonight. We got a lot of confidence and belief two weeks ago in the Challenge Cup, to get back to Super League and get the two points was all that mattered tonight.
“We created a lot of ruck speed. All Wakefield teams turn it on in the second half. They know how to play second half rugby and credit to them.
“It was free flowing. We played some really good attacking football especially in that first 40 minutes. We will get a lot of confidence out if it, with no injuries from the game and the boys are in good spirits.
“I thought there were some really big efforts tonight. We are in good shape, fighting for that top-two spot. It’s still there. We’ve got to go up to Leeds for a tough game there now, and see where we end up.
“It was a fantastic turnout tonight for Bennie Westwood’s farewell too. What a true legend of the club, the ultimate warrior. He always wears his heart on his sleeve and every time he’s donned our jersey he’s done so with pride. He’s a player everyone wants to player with.”
