Big Luther Burrell is next door to us, who is the resident DJ. He has got these big speakers pumping tunes out to keep everyone upbeat. Jake Mamo is my roomie, with Tommy and Toby also in our apartment, which we are very happy with. Philbs
Our flight over was good, pretty smooth, I did mostly sleep to be fair so not too much to report I’m afraid. When we landed we headed to the apartments and had about 10 minutes to be in the gym ready for some conditioning, so it was straight into action.
When we first got here on Sunday it was dark and cold as the sun is setting at about 5.30pm but we woke up yesterday morning and it was pretty fresh before the sun came out at around 10am when we started training.
So yesterday we did some speed work as forwards and backs, in a bit of a competition which is always good – Tom Lineham loves racing Toby King, he cheats whenever he can too, starting further back to get more of a run up but that’s Tommy – we then did some 13 on 13 stuff, before we were able to chill out for about 12 minutes before going into weights and wrestling.
Last night we found a local coffee shop to get us out from the four walls.
Today and Friday are our two big days when we will do a lot of conditioning. This morning we did the Bronco test, which is our fitness test, and is brutal. We then had a big contact and lower weights session.
These camps are great to help build stronger relationships, we can spend more time with each other after training and find out what makes other people tick.

I’m really looking forward to putting what we have been doing in training into game situations. It will be a good test playing against Salford in the friendly who obviously got to the grand final last year and are a very well coached side.
I’m excited to get back into week to week playing too. I’ve missed that adrenalin buzz of playing in front of a big crowd at the HJ but I am also excited to see the back of pre-season training; the long days, few days off and a lot of hard work. We understand the importance of it to build resilience for when you are under the pump for the big games but we still moan every day.
To get straight into the big games against Wigan and Saints, I think is the best way to start, there’s no point dipping your toe in. I think, to be fair, we have been pretty good in the big games over the last few years too especially under Steve so we will be ready and firing for round one.
Before I sign off, I have to bring up my teeth! I’ve never liked them since I was a young whippersnapper, so I’m delighted with the end product of the work done. I do like your comments on social media, they keep me and lads entertained!
I’ll be back later in the week.
