The Supporters Trust was established in 2002 when Warrington Wolves were in a very different position to today and there were even concerns about the very future of our club. Thankfully we are now in a new era, a modern stadium and the future of our club is secure.
During those dark days, Squadbuilder, the fund-raising arm of Warrington Wolves Supporters’ Trust, was set up with the specific objective to help with youth development both within the club and across the town.
Through the Squadbuilder scheme the Trust has so far contributed almost £200,000 towards youth development over that period. In partnership with the club we have helped to deliver on our objective of seeing far more home grown players in the Superleague squad from the only one we had (Mike Wainwright) in 2002.
In 2016 the roll call of current first team players to have benefited from Squadbuilder support will number 16! These include: Ben Currie, Ben Harrison, Kevin Penny, Gene Ormsby and Jack Johnson. Recent home grown players to have worn the primrose and blue include England International Mike Cooper and Challenge Cup winners Chris Riley and Tyrone McCarthy. …. The list could go on!
The Squadbuilder scheme currently has circa 150 members including many fans, club representatives and staff. Contributions from these members help to raise thousands of pounds each year and continue to secure the future of youth development at your club.
We don’t just focus on Warrington Wolves either. In partnership with the Wolves Foundation, Squadbuilder has helped to fund a RL Development Coach for the town over the last 3 years at a cost of over £10,000. Last season we also helped provide over 1000 new rugby balls for the towns amateur teams.
